This session will delineate the metabolic pathways concerning biopolymer production by microorganisms that experts will present, and some will be opened specifically in relation to polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) and polylactic acid (PLA). This program will overview enzymatic processes and regulatory mechanisms that control the accumulation of biopolymers in microorganisms, thereby enhancing knowledge on optimizing microbial production for industrial-scale applications.
The session will examine the environmental fingerprint of microbial bioplastics: biodegradability, life cycle analysis, and contribution towards reducing plastic pollution. The data pertaining to various environmental conditions under which these bioplastics degrade will be discussed with respect to the role of microbes in ensuring an eco-friendly degradation process.

It will concentrate on the complex interactions of microbes within microbial communities in relation to how different environmental factors, as well as microbial symbiosis, affect the production of bioplastics in terms of efficiency. Diversity, niche specialization, and resource utilization in biopolymers and its yield as maximized aspects will be presented.
This session will focus on microbial technologies that will deal with waste streams and recycle plastics by breaking them down microbially and subsequently converting them into bioplastics. Innovations in harnessing microbial metabolism to break down conventional plastics and utilize waste products as feedstocks for the synthesis of bioplastic will be addressed in light of future solutions in waste management.
